Choosing where to dine on an island is part of the journey. You want to find somewhere special, and guides such as Gambero Rosso can help you take that first step, introducing you to kitchens you might not otherwise have discovered. A guide offers an outside perspective, and that can be helpful.

What the guide says

Gambero Rosso has recognised us with Two Forks in its 2026 edition, alongside words that mean a great deal to us: «Il ristorante che mancava all’Isola d’Elba» — the restaurant the island of Elba was missing.

We like to see these words as a warm welcome to our way of cooking and looking after those who join us at the table. A distinctive approach that adds to all the wonderful things Elba already has to offer.

What it does not say

Recognition in a restaurant guide does not mean that a restaurant is better than others in the area. And, of course, it does not replace the personal judgement of those who come to dine.

It reflects a moment in time. Recognition belongs to a particular edition: an assessment made at that point, reconsidered with each new publication. Maintaining that standard is up to us.

Why at Sentiero that moment changes every day

We have no à la carte menu. Our menu takes shape around the season, what is available that day and what inspires us that morning. So, if you join us for dinner this October, you won’t find the same dishes you would in June.

That is why the recognition does not describe a fixed menu: there is no fixed menu to describe. It speaks to a way of working, with three details anyone can see for themselves. Twenty guests per service. Two tasting journeys, with no à la carte menu. And Ambra and Juan Carlos in the dining room, personally introducing every course.

A guide can suggest where it is worth stopping. But the journey is always shaped by those who sit at the table and those behind each dish. Would you like to experience Sentiero? You’ll find us on Via Calata Italia, opposite the harbour in Portoferraio.
